Diglipur, Feb. 6: In a major infrastructure boost for North Andaman, the A&N Administration has accorded Administrative Approval and Expenditure Sanction (A/A & E/S) of Rs.10.80 Crores for the work “Improvement of State Highway–15 from Subhashgram Bazar to Laxmipur, including reconstruction of dilapidated culverts from CH 0.00 Km to 5.50 Km.” State Highway–15, the lifeline of Diglipur Tehsil, connects Diglipur Bazaar to Hathilevel over 24.70 km, serving several habitations, stone quarry blocks and the Mud Volcano tourist site. Over the years, the stretch experienced deterioration due to heavy traffic, water stagnation and absence of major improvement works, resulting in poor riding quality and inconvenience to road users.
Responding proactively, the Administration has approved comprehensive strengthening works including 75 mm Bituminous Macadam overlay, 40 mm Bituminous Concrete wearing course, 1.00 m wide shoulders, and five years maintenance. The project also includes reconstruction of old and earthquake-affected culverts into modern RCC box culverts as per MoRTH and IRC standards, eliminating bottlenecks and improving road safety. The work will be executed by Andaman PWD and completed within 10 months. This important sanction will significantly enhance connectivity, travel comfort, tourism and economic activity, reaffirming the commitment of the A&N Administration towards sustainable and people-centric infrastructure development.
