AH&VS in Association with ATMA Conducts Training on Fodder Cultivation and Management at Calicut

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 22: The Department of AH&VS in association with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), conducted a two-day training programme on Fodder Cultivation and Management at Calicut village under the jurisdiction of Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma.

A total of 20 farmers participated enthusiastically in the programme, which focused on scientific techniques for fodder production, management, and year-round availability to support livestock health and productivity. The training covered essential topics including selection of suitable fodder crops, soil preparation, sowing methods, irrigation, intercropping strategies, nutrient management, pest and disease control, harvesting, and storage techniques tailored to local island conditions.

The initiative aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to ensure consistent green fodder supply, reduce dependency on external feed sources, and improve milk and meat production in rural areas. Participants appreciated the hands-on approach and expressed their commitment to adopting these sustainable practices on their farms.

This programme reflects the Department’s ongoing commitment to fodder security, scientific livestock management, and empowerment of farmers through extension and training activities in collaboration with ATMA across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
