Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 23: In view of the prevailing water scarcity and with a view to ensuring equitable distribution of water to all residents, the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council has decided to implement water rationing measures for commercial establishments, with immediate effect. The decision was taken during a meeting held with key stakeholders, including representatives of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce, after reviewing the current water availability and consumption patterns. Accordingly, water supply to commercial establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and other commercial buildings, shall be rationalised through a system of controlled rationing with effect from 24th February, 2026 onwards. These measures are intended to ensure judicious utilisation of available water resources and to safeguard essential domestic water supply. The above measures are temporary in nature and shall remain in force until the water availability situation improves. All commercial establishments are requested to extend full cooperation and adopt appropriate water conservation measures in the larger public interest. The Municipal Council appeals to all stakeholders to act responsibly and support these efforts during the present water crisis.
