A&N Police Hosts Grand Finale of DGP Cup T-20 State Level Cricket Tournament (Season-3) 2025-2026

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 13: The Grand Finale of the DGP Cup T-20 State Level League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament (Season-3) was successfully held at Netaji Stadium, bringing to a close a vibrant sporting event that celebrated fitness, discipline, teamwork, and community spirit.

Organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Police, the DGP Cup has emerged as one of the most prestigious sporting initiatives in the islands. The tournament serves as a dynamic platform to promote sportsmanship, youth participation, and community engagement while strengthening the bond between the police and the public.

The tournament commenced on 15 March 2025 with the participation of 51 teams, and a total of 101 league matches were successfully conducted at Netaji Stadium and Port Mout Cricket Ground. The tournament was temporarily paused during the monsoon season and resumed on 19 January 2026. Overall, 153 matches—including league matches, pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final—were played during the tournament.

After a series of thrilling and competitive matches, the A&N Police Team emerged victorious, defeating the A&N Forest Team in the grand finale to lift the coveted Winner’s Trophy, which was presented by Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands. The Runner-up Trophy was presented to the A&N Forest Team by Smt. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP, A&N Islands.

Individual performances were also recognized for excellence: Shri Jayaprakash Narayan, Captain of the A&N Police Team, was awarded Man of the Match (Final) with a cash prize of ₹5,000 and Shri Vikas Sharma of AN Command delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament and received multiple honours, including Best Batsman (₹10,000), Best Bowler (₹10,000), and Player of the Series (₹15,000).

The grand finale was graced by Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Chief Secretary of the A&N Islands, and Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, along with senior officials and a large gathering of sports enthusiasts.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP appreciated the efforts of all participating teams, organizers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the tournament. On the occasion, he also officially launched the DGP Cup State Level League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament (Season-4) and invited teams from across the islands to participate, emphasizing that such initiatives play a vital role in encouraging youth engagement, nurturing sporting talent, and strengthening positive police–community relations.

The tournament concluded in a vibrant atmosphere of enthusiasm and sportsmanship, reflecting the spirit of unity and healthy competition. Through initiatives like the DGP Cup, the Andaman & Nicobar Police reaffirm their unwavering commitment to promoting sports, inspiring youth, and fostering stronger bonds between the police and the community across the islands.

The entire tournament was conducted under the overall supervision of Smt. Niyati Mittal Kashyap, Superintendent of Police, Armed Police Unit. The successful organization of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts and valuable support of officers and staff of the Armed Police Unit, IRBn, Police Headquarters, along with the cooperation of officials from SOVTECH, IP&T, Directorate of Sports, and other supporting departments of the A&N Administration, who collectively ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
