A&N Police Completes Phase-wise Disposal of Over 6 Tonnes of Methamphetamine Worth Approx. Rs 36,000 Crore in International Market

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 13: Largest Drug quantity (Methamphetamine) more than 6000 Kg has been disposed off. The Andaman & Nicobar Police successfully completed the phase-wise pre-trial disposal of a huge quantity of Methamphetamine seized in connection with PS C&EO FIR No. 111/24 dated 26.11.2024, U/s8(c)/22(c)/23(c)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985 r.w.s 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, in compliance of NDPS Act 1985 NDPS (Seizure, storage, sampling and Disposal) Rule, 2022.

Despite the enormous quantity involved, the entire disposal process was completed efficiently through meticulous planning, coordination and strict adherence to legal procedures.

Marking a significant milestone in the fight against drug trafficking, the A&N Police ensured the destruction of approximately 6003.550 KG of Methamphetamine, estimated to be worth around ₹36,000 crore in the international market, under the leadership of Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS Director General of Police, A&N Islands.

The disposal process was carried out during the period from 26.06.2025 to 12.03.2026 at the incineration facility of INHS Dhanvantri, Minnie Bay, under the supervision of the High Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Dr. A. Koan, IPS, DIGP (PR), with Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS DIGP (CID) and Shri. Ravikant Kumar, DANIPS, SP (Commandant HG) as members. The destruction of the contraband was carried out in phased manner through scientific incineration, strictly adhering to the prescribed legal procedures, safety protocols and environmental safeguards, in transparent manner.

The final phase of the disposal process was conducted today on 12.03.2026 in the presence of the Shri  Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Smt. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, ADGP (L&O), A&N Islands along with senior police officers and members of the High Level Drug Disposal Committee, marking the successful completion of one of the largest drug destruction exercises in the history of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The officers and staff involved in the disposal process carried out the task diligently in addition to their routine official duties. Despite heavy workload and operational commitments, they ensured proper coordination, security arrangements, documentation and safe handling of the contraband throughout the disposal period, thereby demonstrating exemplary dedication and commitment to duty.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterates its firm commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse. Continuous enforcement efforts, intelligence-based operations and public awareness initiatives are being undertaken to ensure that the A&N Islands remain safe from the menace of narcotic drugs.
