New Delhi, Aug 14: In a maiden moment of Aarohan: Dweep to Delhi, a seven-day National Integration Tour organised by the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), 30 meritorious higher secondary students from tribal communities of the Islands met Hon’ble President Smt Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 14 Aug 25.
The President warmly interacted with the students, lauding their unique cultural heritage and encouraging them to pursue education for the progress of their communities. She shared her life journey, inspiring them with a message of hope, empowerment, and the importance of preserving the Islands’ rare flora and fauna. Commending ANC’s initiative, she extended her blessings to the future flag bearers of the Islands. A traditional handcrafted souvenir from local tribal artisans was presented to the Hon’ble President.
Following their meeting with the Hon’ble President, the spirited youngsters called on the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh at South Block. During the interaction, the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri underscored the importance of human values, terming it as the most important aspect that builds a person’s character. He urged the students to stay connected with human values and lay equal emphasis on building their character. Shri Rajnath Singh also commended their achievements, encouraged them to excel in their studies, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development of the Islands.
Part of an enriching itinerary blending heritage and modernity, the tour includes visits to historic monuments, academic institutions, and modern infrastructure, enabling students-many visiting mainland India for the first time-to experience the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. The initiative is supported by HQ Integrated Defence Staff, HQ Delhi Area, Civil Administration of A&N Islands, Narsi & Associates, and National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
This pioneering programme offers the youth of remote Island communities an opportunity to connect with India’s proud heritage and vibrant present. Visits to iconic sites like the Red Fort, India Gate, National War Memorial, and Taj Mahal, along with exposure at institutions like Delhi Technological University and the National Science Centre, inspire aspirations and build bonds of unity. For many participants, the journey also marked their first experience of travelling by air, train, and metro, making the tour especially memorable. The initiative underscores ANC’s steadfast commitment to fostering national integration and shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
