Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 11: A delegation from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has submitted a brief memorandum to the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji seeking his intervention for establishment of a full-fledged, publicly funded Central University and higher education reforms in the Islands.
The memorandum highlights the long-standing higher-education challenges faced by island students, including limited access to specialized courses, research facilities and employment opportunities. ABVP has also sought a comprehensive review of the present NSCBIHL/deemed University restructuring, with meaningful consultation involving students, teachers, parents, PRIs and other stakeholders.
ABVP further demanded strengthening of present seven government colleges, creation of better opportunities for local youth, improved healthcare and research infrastructure, and an island-centric development model covering education, employment, connectivity, healthcare, tourism, blue economy and strategic development under a single umbrella of Central University.
During the interaction, the Hon’ble Vice-President assured the ABVP delegation that the matter of establishing a Central University in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands would definitely be taken up with government of India. The assurance has been welcomed as an encouraging step towards fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of students, youth and the people of the Islands.
ABVP reiterated that “the youth of the Islands do not seek special treatment; they seek equal opportunity” and expressed hope that the Central University demand would now receive positive consideration at the Government of India level.
