Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 5: In its continued effort to boost livelihood opportunities and encourage backyard poultry farming among rural households, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services distributed high-quality day-old Khaki Campbell ducklings to 20 selected beneficiaries today at Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan.
The ducklings were supplied from the Central Poultry & Duck Hatchery, Dollygunj, ensuring superior genetic stock and disease-free birds. Each beneficiary received a batch of healthy ducklings along with necessary guidance on scientific rearing, housing, feeding, vaccination schedule and bio-security measures to achieve optimum growth and egg production.
The programme was supervised by veterinary officers and staff of the Manglutan Dispensary, who also emphasised the advantages of duck farming – low investment, quick returns, high egg-laying capacity, and suitability to the island climate and water availability in the region. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Department for the timely support and assured proper care of the birds.
