Sri Vijaya Puram, July 1: The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department organized a poultry chick distribution program at Katchal Island on June 29, 2025, under its rural poultry development initiative. A total of 171 six-week-old Vanaraja and Nicobari chicks were distributed to four beneficiaries to promote backyard poultry farming and support sustainable livelihoods. The chicks were sourced from the Composite Livestock Farm (CLF), Kamorta, and the distribution was conducted in the presence of Settlers President, Shri A. Rajendran and Captain Shri L. Aron, ensuring transparency and active local participation.
This initiative aims to strengthen the rural economy by encouraging poultry farming as a viable source of income for the beneficiaries. The program also seeks to enhance food security and self-reliance in remote island communities like Katchal by providing resources for small-scale poultry production. The AH&VS Department remains committed to supporting such efforts across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to empower local farmers.
