Sri Vijaya Puram, July 13: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, organized a piggery management initiative on Swaraj Dweep on July 12, 2025, to promote sustainable livestock farming and improve the livelihoods of local farmers. The initiative focused on educating farmers about the benefits of piglet castration, a key practice to enhance piggery operations.
During the program, veterinary experts educated farmers on the advantages of piglet castration, emphasizing its role in improving growth performance, temperament, and meat quality. Farmers demonstrated keen interest in the practice and requested on-site castration for their piglets.
In response, the AH&VS Department conducted castration on 12 piglets across two small-scale piggery farms on Swaraj Dweep, ensuring the procedure was carried out with precision and care to promote animal welfare and farm productivity.
