A&N Islands Observes 50 years of Imposition of Emergency as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: Along with the rest of the nation, A&N Islands too observed 50 years of imposition of Emergency as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas today. A commemorative program was organised at Andaman Club by the Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration to mark the occasion.

The event was graced by Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency. The DGP, Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, PCCF, Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Prakash Adhikari, Chairperson, SVPMC, Shri Shahul Hameed, other senior officers of A&N Administration and members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions were also present on the occasion.

The program commenced with the rendition of the National Anthem by A&N Police Band. Following this, the Lt. Governor, accompanied by other dignitaries, saw the special exhibition titled ‘Long Live Democracy’ curated by the Ministry of Culture. The exhibition highlighted India’s long-standing tradition of participatory governance, the dark chapter of the Emergency and the nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic values.

Adding to the occasion, a short film on Samvidhan Hatya Diwas, produced by the Ministry of Culture was screened, evoking reflection on the importance of safeguarding democratic principles.

A signature campaign under the same theme #Long Live Democracy, was also held at the venue, drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees. The program concluded with rendition of the National Anthem by the Police Band.
