Commemorating the Dark Chapter of Emergency: BJP A&N Islands Observes Black Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman & Nicobar Islands observed Black Day at the State Karyalaya, Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Bhawan, Sri Vijaya Puram to commemorate the imposition of Emergency in 1975 — a dark chapter in India’s democratic history.

The program began with a powerful video presentation that vividly illustrated the horrors of the Emergency, a time when fundamental rights were suspended, press freedom was curbed, and voices of dissent were silenced. The presentation served as a sobering reminder of the authoritarian measures taken during that period and the courage displayed by those who stood up against the regime.

Adding depth to the event, an exhibition was held showcasing rare photographs, archival documents and personal testimonies of those who resisted the Emergency. The exhibition drew significant attention from attendees, giving them a meaningful perspective on the hardships and sacrifices endured in the fight to restore democracy.

The program was anchored by Smt. Sampa Banerjee, State Co-Incharge and State President, BJP Mahila Morcha.

Shri M. Vinod, State Vice President and State Incharge of the Black Day Programme delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the solemn observance.

In his presidential address, Shri Ajoy Bairagi, State President, highlighted the importance of remembering this period in Indian history and pledged continued commitment to the protection of democratic ideals.

Dr. R. Devdas, State Co-Incharge and State Secretary, BJP, extended the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and emphasizing the relevance of these reflections for the youth and future generations.

The program was attended by Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President, Smt. Sheela Singh, State Vice President, Shri K. Ram Das, State General Secretary, Dr /R.Dev Das and Smti Sampa Banerjee, State Co Incharges of Program on Black Day along with State Office Bearers, District ,Morchas and Mandal leaders and numerous dedicated party karyakartas, all united in paying tribute to the indomitable spirit of resistance shown during the Emergency era.
