Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 13: The 79th Independence Day will be celebrated in a befitting manner in these Islands too together with the rest of the country on Aug. 15, 2025. The main function for the 79th Independence Day will be held at the historic Netaji Stadium wherein the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) will hoist the National Tricolour at 9.14 AM. Thereafter, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor will inspect the Guard of Honour and present Medals, Gallantry Awards and distribute Commendation Certificates. This will be followed by the address of Hon’ble Lt. Governor. The main function at Netaji Stadium will conclude with the National Anthem.
Before arrival at the Netaji Stadium for the main function, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor will visit National Memorial Cellular Jail and place wreath at the ‘Martyr’s Column’. He will also hoist the National Flag in the Cellular Jail.
A full dress rehearsal of the 79th Independence Day celebration was held in the historic Netaji Stadium today.
Meanwhile, prominent places in the city got a face lift with the historical monuments and Government buildings white coated. Elaborate traffic arrangements and traffic diversions have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the main function of the 79th Independence Day celebrations.
