A&N State Convention of Students Federation of India Held at Shaheed Bhavan

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: Andaman & Nicobar State Convention of Students Federation of India (SFI) was held today (26.05.2025) at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali.  Inaugurating the Convention, Mayukh Biswas, General Secretary, SFI, who reached Sri Vijaya Puram from mainland today, briefly explained the aims and objectives of the SFI and said that SFI is raising the slogan of “Education for All” and “Job for All”.  He said that SFI has been demanding for earmarking of 6% of the GDP and 10% of the total budget for the Education sector in the country, but the successive governments at the centre did not accept this. He said that students are being divided on the basis of religion in the educational institutions in the country.  He criticized the central government for disaffiliating the colleges in the islands from the Pondicherry University and affiliating it with the newly established Deemed University.  He said that there are number of problems and issues being faced by the students in the islands and called upon the SFI Committee in the islands to organise the students and conduct agitations for their legitimate rights.  

Abdul Warish, Convener, SFI A & N State Organising Committee briefly explained the demands of the students in the islands and said that the SFI in the coming days will emerge as a force to reckon with.  D. Ayyappan, Chairman, JNRM Alumni Association and Dijo, Secretary, DYFI A&N State Committee also addressed the Convention. 

A large number of students from various educational institutions in the islands attended the Convention. The Convention adopted a number of resolutions on the issues pertaining to students.
