
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 6: The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) successfully conducted the A & N State Under-11 Chess Championship-cum-Selection Trials this evening at RGT Public School, Sri Vijaya Puram. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from budding chess talents from the islands.
Hon’ble Justice Kausik Chanda, Judge of the High Court at Culcutta graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the championship by making the ceremonial first move on the top board in the esteemed presence of International Arbiter H. Dinesh, who attended as the Guest of Honour.
In his inaugural address, Justice Chanda expressed delight at the enthusiastic participation in the Under-11 category and commended ANCA’s efforts in nurturing young talent. He noted that with such dedication and spirit, the islands may one day produce Grandmasters of international repute.
A total of 146 young players took part in the event with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. After a series of 7 intense and well-fought rounds, the following players secured the top five positions in the Boys and Girls categories:
In the Boys category, AGM B Hari Prasad secured first position, followed by AFM Shrihaan Karmakarm in second place and AFM Saw Jinson Samuel securing the third position. S Eshan claimed the fourth spot, while Hardik Chakravarthy rounded off the top five with a commendable fifth-place finish.
In the Girls category, S Bhavishya clinched the first position while D Charvi secured the second place. Krishnapriya B Rajesh stood third, followed by Agrata Singh in fourth and B Utkarsha in fifth position.
The top fifteen players in both categories were felicitated with prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Importantly, the top two players from each category have been selected to represent the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as normal entries at the prestigious 38th National Under-11 Chess Championship–2025, scheduled to be held in Maharashtra from 2nd to 8th August 2025.
The selected players are requested to submit their consent letters by 5:30 PM on 9th July 2025. Failing to do so will result in their replacement by the next eligible player in the standings.
