Sri Vijaya Puram, July 19: The Andaman Nicobar Command conducted an insightful presentation on “History of the Andaman and Nicobar Island – A Military Perspective”, offering a comprehensive account of the Island’s historical evolution and enduring strategic significance.
The presentation traced the history of Andaman Nicobar Island, highlighting a narrative shaped by conflict, conquests, colonial influence and an enduring maritime legacy. It examined the Islands’ transformation from ancient maritime crossroads to their present-day role as a strategic hub, underscoring their importance in safeguarding India’s national security and advancing its maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
Drawing upon the historical records, military campaigns and geopolitical developments, the presentation provided a unique military perspective on the Island’s role in India’s defence architecture. It also highlighted the contribution of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the freedom struggle, the Second World War and their emergence as a key pillar of India’s first Tri-Services command.
