Sri Vijaya Puram, July 19: As part of his official visit to the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Ravideep Singh Sahi, Additional Director General, South Zone, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), visited the CRPF deployments at District Jail, Prothrapur, Sri Vijaya Puram, and the NTRO Campus, Bambooflat, where he reviewed the security arrangements, interacted with deployed personnel and assessed the overall operational preparedness.
During the visit, the ADG attended the Veterans and Martyrs’ Families Felicitation Ceremony organised by 77 Battalion, CRPF, to honour retired CRPF personnel and the families of martyrs belonging to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in recognition of their dedicated service, sacrifice and invaluable contribution to the Nation.
A total of 14 retired CRPF personnel from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands participated in the programme. The Next of Kin (NOK) of Shaheed Ramesh Singh, one of the two CRPF martyrs from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was also present and was felicitated during the ceremony as a mark of the Force’s deep respect and gratitude for the supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty.
The programme provided an opportunity for meaningful interaction between the Chief Guest, the veterans and the martyr’s family. During the interaction, the veterans shared their service experiences and highlighted various issues and grievances faced by them after retirement. Shri Ravideep Singh Sahi patiently heard their concerns, addressed several issues on the spot and assured them that the remaining matters would be taken up with the appropriate authorities for early resolution.
The ADG also reviewed the progress made on the issues raised during a similar interaction held under the same initiative in December 2024. It was noted with satisfaction that the issues highlighted during the previous interaction had been addressed, reaffirming the CRPF’s continued commitment towards the welfare of its veterans and the families of its martyrs.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ravideep Singh Sahi reiterated that the relationship between the Force and its retired personnel, as well as the families of those who made the supreme sacrifice, extends far beyond active service. He emphasised that the welfare of veterans and martyrs’ families will continue to remain a priority for the CRPF.
Following the ceremony, the ADG visited the Shaheed Ramesh Singh Memorial at Sri Vijaya Puram and paid homage by laying floral tributes in honour of the martyr’s supreme sacrifice. During the visit, he also emphasised the need to establish a memorial in Car Nicobar in honour of Shaheed Joffet, the other CRPF martyr from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as a lasting tribute to his sacrifice.
The ceremony reaffirmed the CRPF’s enduring commitment to honouring the service, sacrifice and legacy of its brave personnel and maintaining a lasting bond with its veterans and the families of its martyrs.
