Andaman Public Works Department Celebrates its 68th Raising Day with Great Enthusiasm and Spirit of Departmental Unity

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 13: The Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) celebrated its 68th Raising Day with great enthusiasm and a spirit of departmental unity. The celebrations spanned over two days, filled with sportsmanship, cultural vibrancy, and reflections on the department’s remarkable journey.

The festivities began on Oct. 11 with a spirited Sports Meet held at Netaji Stadium which was inaugurated by Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary (PWD). She ceremoniously handed over the torch to the winner of the Mini Marathon, which had been conducted earlier on Oct. 5.

The day was marked by exciting events such as 100-meter sprints, sack races, and Tug of War, among others. Staff members, along with their families, participated with great enthusiasm, turning the event into a lively celebration of togetherness. The winners were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony by Shri. T.K. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD.

On Oct. 12, a grand Raising Day Cultural Night was organized, showcasing APWD’s achievements and its contributions to public welfare and infrastructure development. The evening was graced by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman as the chief guest, and Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary (APWD) as the guest of honour.

In his address, Shri Arjun Sharma praised APWD’s commitment to public service and encouraged young engineers to embrace innovation and sustainability in their work. Ms. Purva Garg appreciated the growing participation of women in Civil Engineering and distributed prizes to the winners of the indoor sports competitions.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Biju Varghese. The 68th Raising Day was also celebrated with great zeal across all Divisions of APWD throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands including Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Car Nicobar, and Campbell Bay, with various programmes and activities commemorating the special occasion.
