
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 2: The Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration, organised a one-day Capacity Building Workshop yesterday on Handling of Tranquilizing Gun for Frontline Staff, to enhance the technical competence and operational preparedness of frontline forest personnel engaged in wildlife rescue, immobilization, translocation, conflict mitigation, and conservation across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Inaugurating the programme, Shri Ravi Horo, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife)-cum-Chief Wildlife Warden emphasized on the importance of continuous capacity building and the adoption of advanced scientific approaches in wildlife conservation. He appreciated the initiative of the Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, and observed that well-trained personnel equipped with modern techniques and specialised equipment are essential for ensuring the safety of both wildlife and field staff during rescue and management operations.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers, Veterinary Compounders, Mahouts and frontline staff representing from all territorial and Wildlife divisions of the South, North and Middle Andaman District. Technical sessions were conducted by expert resource persons from BMR Wildlife Service, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
On the occasion, a pamphlet titled “Safe Tranquilization Practices”, prepared by the Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, was released by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and other dignitaries. The pamphlet serves as a practical field guide for frontline staff on the safe and scientific use of tranquilizing equipment during wildlife operations.
