Braving Adverse Weather, PMF Rangat Rescues Stranded Trawler

Rangat, Aug 19: On 18/08/2025 at 1550 hrs, a distress relay was received from the Fisheries Department, Nimbutala at PMF Rangat, reporting that a fishing trawler MV Sarveshwaran (Reg. No. IND-AN-SA-MM-2059) with 05 crew onboard had suffered an engine failure off Rangat Bay and required immediate assistance.

Responding with promptness and professionalism, the PMF Rangat team consisting of SI (Master) Abdul Lathief, HCs Samson & C. Samsudeen onboard FIB MV Suntook set sail at 1610 hrs to carry out a Search and Rescue operation. The crew maintained constant vigilance while navigating through choppy waters and deteriorating weather conditions, ensuring that no time was lost in reaching the distressed fishermen. After a careful search, at about 1715 hrs, the team successfully identified and located the stranded trawler MV Sarveshwaran, positioned approximately 4.5 nautical miles from Rangat Bay jetty.

The fishermen were immediately provided with basic first aid onboard MV Suntook to ensure their wellbeing after prolonged distress at sea. Following this, the team initiated systematic preparations for towing the disabled trawler towards safety. Despite being confronted with adverse weather marked by heavy rains, rough seas, and squally winds, the PMF personnel displayed remarkable seamanship and resilience. With coordinated effort and precision, the team successfully executed the towing operation and navigated the distressed vessel through challenging conditions.

Ultimately, MV Sarveshwaran was brought safely to Rangat Bay Harbour and anchored securely at the Inner Harbour, preventing a potential maritime mishap and ensuring the complete safety of the crew as well as the vessel.

This timely and courageous action by the PMF Rangat team highlights is a testimony to the dedication, professionalism and commitment of A&N Police in safeguarding the lives and ensuring the security of the islanders.
