Chief Secretary and Delegation of Car Nicobar Tribal Council Meet Hon’ble Lt. Governor at Lok Niwas

Progress in Electricity & Development Matters Discussed

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: The Chief Secretary, Shri Gyanesh Bharti met Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma at Lok Niwas, Sri Vijaya Puram, today and apprised him of the progress of various ongoing works being undertaken by the A&N Administration. During the meeting, the issues raised by the public during recent visits of Hon’ble Lt. Governor to various places were also brought to the attention of the Chief Secretary, and he was requested to direct the concerned Departments to complete the works related to these issues at the earliest. The Chief Secretary was also directed to ensure physical verification of the works after their completion.

On the occasion, the Electricity Department, A&N Administration, made a detailed presentation on the progress of various LNG-based power plants and major initiatives in the power sector. These initiatives aim to ensure reliable, efficient and sustainable power supply across the Islands, reduce dependence on diesel-based power generation, and strengthen power infrastructure across the Islands. The presentation was attended by Chief Secretary, Shri Gyanesh Bharti; Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Dr. Sachin Shinde; Secretary (Power), Shri Pravesh Jha, Secretary to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, Special Secretary, Shri Apurva Sharma, among others.

In this series, a delegation led by Captain Shri Lionel Nicomed, Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Lt. Governor. The delegation comprised of Deputy Vice Chief Captain, Shri John Levi, Executive Members, Shri Lucas Robert and Shri Mohammad Amin Moosa. The delegation held detailed discussions with the Hon’ble Lt. Governor on the key developmental requirements of the island and sought his support and guidance on issues including enhancement of ship connectivity, expediting the dredging of Mus Jetty to make it navigable, ensuring the availability of essential medical equipment and facilities at BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar, and establishing a mechanism for the mechanized cleaning of septic tanks on the island. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor heard the concerns of the delegation patiently and directed the concerned Departments to take expeditious action and conduct physical verification of the issues raised.

In the same sequence, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor also had courtesy meetings with Shri Vivek Dadhakar, former Organization Secretary, BJP; Captain (IN) (Retd.) Davinder Singh Gehlot, National Coordinator, Bharat Bharati; and Shri Vinay Patrale, National President, Bharat Bharati.
