CITU A & N Islands Join All India Protest on Repression Against Workers by UP-Haryana Governments

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 16: At the call given by the CITU, New Delhi workers all over the country observed today (16.04.2026) as Protest Day against the repression unleashed by Haryana and BJP governments on the agitating workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) and at several Districts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc. In Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a massive demonstration was carried out by CITU State Committee at 4 p.m. today (16.4.2026) in which a large number of workers from different trade unions participated 

Inaugurating the mass demonstration, R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee briefly explained the critical situation prevailing at the above places due to the terror unleashed by BJP governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the agitating workers. 

Addressing the gathering, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that workers are being exploited in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.  A meagre amount of Rs. 10,000 or 11,000/- per month is paid to the workers as Minimum Wages.  For several years, there was no increase in the minimum wages in these states.  He said that the present revolt by the workers has exposed severe exploitation, poor working conditions and extreme economic distress these workers have been undergoing for the last several years. He said that several workers and trade union leaders of CITU have been arrested and jailed by incorporating serious charges in the FIRs.

Addressing the gathering, SP Kalairajan, Secretary, CITU State Committee accused the BJP governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for not implementing labour laws for the benefits of workers.
