
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 1: As part of the nation-wide protests by Left Parties demanding resignation of Shri Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner and halt to SIR of electoral rolls, the CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Committee conducted a mass demonstration in front of the Port Blair Municipal Council at Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair today (1.10.2026).
Inaugurating the mass demonstration, D. Ayyappan, CPI (M) A & N State Secretary said that over 13 crore people have bbeen removed from the electoral rolls all over the country following the SIR of electoral rolls undertaken by the Election Commission of India headed by Shri Gyanesh Kumar. He said that about 50,000 voters, out of the total 3,12,000 electors of A&N Parliamentary Constituency have been removed from the electoral rolls after the SIR. He further said that from the very beginning of the SIR process, in a series of meetings taken by the Chief Electoral Officer, A & N Islands, the CPI (M) had opposed removal of the electors from the electoral rolls without following the procedure established by law. Ayyappan went on to say that Shri Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner is a tool at the hands of Modi-Amit Shah combine to disenfranchise crores of Indian electors and demanded the resignation of Shri Gyanesh Kumar immediately.
Dr Gouranga Majhi and P. Sathyapal State Secretariat Members also addressed the participants while R. Surendran Pillai, Member Port Blair City Area Committee of the party proposed vote of thanks. B. Chandrachoodan and D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Members and senior leader P. Banerjee were also present on the occasion.
A large number of party leaders, workers and sympathisers including women from the Port Blair town and adjacent rural areas participated in the mass demonstration.
