Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: The Cyber Crime Police Station, A&N Police, has detected several cases involving alleged fraudulent use of another person’s name and identity for submitting false grievances through the LG Helpdesk Grievance Portal.
The matter came to light when an individual discovered that a grievance had been submitted before a public authority in his name or using his identity or that of his organisation, without his knowledge, consent or authorisation. He subsequently approached the Cyber Crime Police Station, leading to registration of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Members of the public are advised to:
• Never use another person’s name, mobile number, email ID or identity details for submitting an online complaint or grievance.
• Do not create or submit false, fabricated or impersonated complaints through government portals or social media platforms.
• Verify the authenticity of any complaint received in your name and immediately report any suspected impersonation or misuse of identity to the concerned authority or Cyber Crime Police Station.
• Preserve screenshots, complaint IDs, emails, messages and other relevant digital evidence when reporting such incidents.
• Use official grievance mechanisms responsibly and submit only genuine and factually correct information.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant against online frauds and in case of any cyber financial fraud, immediately report the incident by calling the National Cybercrime Helpline No. 1930 or the Cyber Crime Police Station Helpline Nos. 03192-230668 & 9531856083 or by filing a complaint through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portals.
