
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 22: Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, conducted site inspections across various locations under the jurisdiction of Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC). The visit aimed to assess pressing civic issues, review proposals for developmental projects and implementation of public welfare initiatives across multiple municipal wards.
Accompanied by the Chairperson of SVPMC, Shri S. Shahul Hameed; Ward Councilors Shri R. Someshwar Rao (Ward No. 1), Shri C. Karunanidhi (Ward No. 16), Shri Rajesh Pal Govind (Ward No. 18), and Smti M. Vasantha Muthu Raman (Ward No. 12); as well as officials from the Revenue Department SVPMC and APWD, the Deputy Commissioner inspected key sites which have been identified for the municipality’s upcoming civic development agenda.
At Haddo, covering Ward Nos. 1 and 2, the team visited locations proposed for the construction of Smart Markets including Fish, Fruit, Vegetable and Grocery Markets along with an Ice Plant Unit.
A nearby site in front of the Haddo Hindi Medium School was identified for the development of a Senior Citizen Park. The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman directed Revenue Department officials to initiate the process for earmarking the land for this community-friendly project.
During the inspection of Ward No. 16, the focus turned to long-standing issues of waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon season. The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman instructed the Executive Engineer, South Andaman Division, APWD, to prepare a detailed estimate for widening the existing nallah to improve water drainage. Additionally, Revenue officials were directed to carry out land demarcation and ensure necessary surrender of land from private tenants, wherever required.
In Ward No. 18, at Attam Pahad, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the demand for improved road connectivity and instructed the preparation of an estimate for the construction of an access road to benefit local residents. He also emphasized the need for strict action against unauthorized encroachments on government land and directed the concerned officials to initiate necessary steps for their removal.
Further, at Ward No. 12, the proposal for constructing a Shopping Complex by SVPMC was reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner advised the Revenue authorities to start the process for setting apart suitable land for the project.
