Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, held a meeting at Shaheed Dweep on 27th September, 2026 as a part of ‘Jan Samvad’ programme with the concerned officers of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration regarding the issues faced by the Islanders. The Lt. Governor emphasized the need for resolving the issues at the earliest and directed the concerned departments to ensure time-bound action and keep the Office of the Lt. Governor informed about the action taken. One of the important issues raised during the Jan Samvad was related to the timely supply and availability of fertilizers for farmers of Shaheed Dweep to support vegetable cultivation
Taking the matter on priority and in the spirit of quick response and prompt resolution of farmers’ concerns, the Department of Agriculture has initiated immediate action for ensuring timely availability of fertilizers at Shaheed Dweep.
In addition to the 7.804 MT of MOP already available at the departmental store at Shaheed Dweep, the first lot of fertilizers, including 1.0 MT of Urea and DAP, has been dispatched to Shaheed Dweep on 03.10.2026 to meet the fertilizer requirements of the farming community and ensure uninterrupted availability of essential agricultural inputs for the ensuing Rabi season. The availability of fertilizers will support farmers in maintaining balanced nutrient application and adopting Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices, thereby contributing to improved soil health and enhanced agricultural productivity, particularly in vegetable cultivation.
The Department is closely monitoring the movement and availability of fertilizers so that the consignment reaches the farmers in a timely manner through the designated distribution mechanism. Further requirements will also be assessed and replenished as per the demand and availability.
