
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: As part of the 72nd Wildlife Week Celebration, the Department of Environment & Forests, in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Sailing Club, organised a Sailing Mini Marathon today, from Marina Park to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island.
The event was organised with the objective of promoting awareness about wildlife conservation, encouraging participation in outdoor and water-based recreational activities, and fostering a spirit of adventure, healthy recreation and environmental responsibility, particularly among the younger generation.
The programme was graced by Shri Neeraj Bharati, IAS, Secretary as the chief guest in the presence of Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), along with senior officers and officials of the Department of Environment & Forests.
The Sailing Mini Marathon was conducted in two categories viz. Children and Adults. Participants sailed from Marina Park towards Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island, demonstrating enthusiasm, sporting spirit and keen interest in sailing.
In the Children’s Category, T. Hetanshi secured the First Prize, while Shri Yash Jadav bagged the First Prize in the Adult Category. Prizes were also awarded to the participants securing the second and third positions in both categories.
The chief guest distributed the prizes to the winners and certificates of participation to all the participants, acknowledging their enthusiasm and active participation in the event. The Andaman Nicobar Sailing Club was represented by Shri Mohammed Pervaiz, Honorary Secretary, along with other members of the Club.
