Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13: The Department of Community Medicine, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) conducted a landmark one-day hands-on training program for frontline healthcare workers focused on the early detection of breast cancer. This event marks the first-ever deployment of the internationally validated MammaCare® simulation model for clinical training in the A&N Islands.
The MammaCare® model, developed and validated through decades of research supported by the National Cancer Institute and National Science Foundation (USA), uses tactually-accurate breast simulation models that replicate the precise feel of real breast tissue enabling trainees to reliably detect suspicious lumps as small as 0.5 cm. Training outcomes demonstrated a remarkable improvement in detection proficiency among healthcare providers, rising from 24% to 83%, a transformative gain that holds direct, life-saving implications through significantly earlier diagnosis.
The training was conducted by Dr. Ajay Raj S., Dr. Samar Hossain, Dr. Aanchal Anand and Dr. Mitul Saha from the Department of Community Medicine, ANIIMS. The program was structured with a pre-test and post-test evaluation to objectively measure skill and knowledge gains across participants.
