
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 9: The Department of Science & Technology (DST) celebrated World Environment Day (WED) 2026 under the theme ‘Climate Action,’ marking the occasion with a massive regional plantation drive and a shift toward enhanced digital administration. The collaborative campaign mobilized various administrative departments and institutions to plant a staggering 18,068 saplings working towards enhancement of green cover in the region.
The main campus event was formally inaugurated by Shri Rakesh Das, Director, Science and Technology, who planted a sapling on the office premises. As part of the initiative, 100 saplings were distributed to local community groups and students. Staff members of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), along with student interns from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, actively participated in greening the campus through plantation activities and the distribution of saplings to the local community.
In a parallel move toward modernization, the Member Secretary, ANPCC-cum-Director (Science & Technology), officially launched the onboarding of the Andaman and Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC) onto the Unified Consent and Authorisation Management System (UCAMS) Portal, developed and designed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), New Delhi, for the grant of Consent to Establish (CTE), Consent to Operate (CTO), and Authorisation to all industrial units in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
