Sri Vijaya Puram, June 13: The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in its commitment to promote sustainable and eco-conscious Tourism, will be organizing a special lecture in association with Andaman and Nicobar Environment Team on the topic ‘From Hatchling to Hope: Leveraging Turtle Nesting for Sustainable Tourism in the Islands’ tomorrow (June 14) at 11 am in the Training Hall of Disaster Management.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Karthik Shanker, renowned Marine Ecologist from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and a leading expert in marine biodiversity and sea turtle conservation.
This event aims to highlight the vital role of turtle nesting sites in shaping responsible tourism practices that benefit both biodiversity and local communities.
Sea turtles, especially the Olive Ridley that visit the Andaman shores annually, are not only ecological keystones but also ambassadors for marine conservation and nature-based tourism. Prof. Shanker’s talk will delve into how island ecosystems can balance tourism with protection of these ancient mariners turning hatchlings into symbols of hope for a more sustainable future.
The Department of Tourism invites researchers, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, & students to participate in this enlightening session. Together, let us nurture a model of tourism that respects the rhythm of nature and ensures long-term prosperity for our islands.
