
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 20: The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), A & N Administration, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) will be organizing the “Chalchitra Andaman Nicobar Film Festival – 2026” at the Anthropological Auditorium, Sri Vijaya Puram on every Friday and Saturday from 22nd May 2026 to 13th June 2026.
Envisaged as a major cultural and tourism initiative of the Administration, the Festival aims to celebrate cinema while showcasing the natural beauty, cultural heritage and tourism potential of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Through acclaimed film screenings, interactive workshops and discussions with filmmakers, the Festival seeks to encourage film appreciation, inspire local creative talent and promote the Islands as an emerging destination for cultural and cinematic activities.
As part of the Film Festival, the following acclaimed and award-winning films will be screened during the 1st week of the Festival at the Anthropological Auditorium, Sri Vijaya Puram:
22nd May 2026 (Friday) – 06:00 PM onwards: “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”
23rd May 2026 (Saturday) – 11:00 AM onwards: “Salaam Bombay!” (First Show)
23rd May 2026 (Saturday) – 05:00 PM onwards: “RRR” (Second Show)
As part of the “Chalchitra Andaman Nicobar Film Festival – 2026”, audiences will have the opportunity to witness screenings of some of the most acclaimed and award-winning films in Indian cinema at the Anthropological Auditorium, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Festival will commence on Friday, 22nd May 2026 at 06:00 PM with the screening of the acclaimed and award-winning NFDC classic “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”, directed by noted filmmaker Kundan Shah. On Saturday, 23rd May 2026 at 11:00 AM, the internationally acclaimed and award-winning film “Salaam Bombay!”, directed by renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, will be screened. Later in the evening at 05:00 PM, audiences can experience the globally acclaimed blockbuster “RRR”, directed by acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli and widely recognized for its grand cinematic scale and award-winning music.
As part of the Film Festival, a special Short Filmmaking Workshop will be conducted by the Department prior to the screening of movies on free of cost, the schedule of which is given below:
1. 23.05.2026 (Saturday) 04:00 Pm to 05:30 PM: Ms. Samhita Veda Acharya, Filmmaker – Introduction to Guerrilla Filmmaking & Concept to Screen. Directing Basics & Cinematography Techniques. Visual Narrative Techniques & Camera Composition Interactive session with participants, Practical demonstration session, Film clip analysis
2. 29.05.2026 (Friday) 04:00 Pm to 05:30 PM: Ms Shivangi Singh & Shri. Rahul Kale, Mumbai based Filmmakers- Introduction to Cinema & Visual Storytelling Introductory workshop session
3. 30.05.2026 (Saturday) 04:00 Pm to 05:30 PM: Grammar of Cinema & Active Film Observation, Film Analysis, Structure & Appreciation Screening and reflection exercise, Closing session of Mumbai-based workshop
Schedule of Workshops and remaining film screenings will be updated shortly.
Interested participants are informed that registration for movie screenings and workshops will be facilitated through an online Google Form and QR code, which will be circulated widely through official platforms and social media handles of the Directorate. The Directorate of IP&T has invited students, local filmmakers, photographers, drone operators, travel vloggers, social media influencers, theatre groups, film clubs, tourists and general public to actively participate in the Film Festival, experience the richness and diversity of Indian cinema during the Festival and associated workshop sessions.
