Review Meeting on Implementation of Official Language Policy Held in Secretariat

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 20: A review meeting on the implementation of the Official Language Policy was held today in the Conference Hall of the Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Richa IAS, Secretary (Official Language). During the meeting, the Secretary (Official Language) reviewed the current status of the use of Official Language Hindi in the Secretariat and various departments of the Administration.

Detailed discussions were held regarding the implementation of the Official Language Policy, the use of Hindi in official work, and the progress achieved in the Secretariat and various departments. The Secretary (Official Language) directed all Nodal Officers of the various departments and the Secretariat to ensure full compliance with the Official Language Policy. She laid special emphasis on ensuring complete compliance with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor regarding the use of Hindi in official work.

The Secretary (Official Language) also directed all Nodal Officers to enable the Unicode system in the computers of their respective offices so that work in Hindi could be carried out easily in the e-Office system. Further, she instructed all Nodal Officers to prepare and submit quarterly progress reports carefully and on time, organize Hindi workshops regularly, and conduct meetings of the Departmental Official Language Implementation Committee. The Secretary (Official Language) informed all officers present in the meeting that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands fall under Region “A” as per the Official Language Rules, 1976, and therefore it is mandatory for all offices functioning in Region “A” to carry out 100 percent official work in Hindi. She further stated that, as per the annual programme issued by the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, a target of 100 percent official work in Hindi has been prescribed for Central Government offices functioning in Region “A”. Any shortfall in achieving these targets is viewed very seriously by the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language. She directed all Nodal Officers to work actively towards the effective implementation of the Official Language Policy.

Shri Rajendra Indwar, Deputy Secretary (Official Language), presented a detailed report through a PowerPoint presentation on the official work carried out in Hindi in the Secretariat and various departments. All Deputy Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Secretariat, along with Assistant Directors from various departments, participated in the meeting.
