Directorate of IP&T to Organise Special Lecture on Mangroves of A&N Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 3: The Directorate of Information, Publicity Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, is organizing a series of public lectures to create awareness on Islands rich biodiversity, potential on different segments of Tourism, sustainable tourism practices, and conservation-based development models.

As part of this ongoing initiative, a special lecture titled ‘Mangroves of Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Nature’s Coastal Warrior– Resilience & Coastal Protection’ will be delivered by Dr. Sandeep Behera, DCF (Wildlife) renowned biodiversity expert at 11 am on 5th July, 2025 at the Training Hall of Directorate of Disaster Management. The lecture will highlight the vital role of mangroves in coastal protection, their ecological significance, and their potential in promoting eco-tourism in the Islands.

The lecture aims to educate the students, tourism stakeholders, and public on the environmental services rendered by mangrove ecosystems acting as natural buffers against storms and erosion, while supporting marine biodiversity and sustainable livelihoods.

This is part of a broader effort by the Administration to mainstream eco-tourism and nature-based experiences, aligning with the national vision for sustainable tourism and conservation awareness. The series has featured prominent experts in wildlife, marine ecology, and community-based tourism and will continue through the year across various locations in the Islands.

The Directorate invites citizens, students, and tourism stakeholders to attend and participate actively in this knowledge-sharing initiative.
