District Administration in Coordination with SVPMC Carries Out Major Joint Eviction Drive in the City

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 15: Pursuing a zero-tolerance policy towards land encroachments, the District Administration, South Andaman, in coordination with Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), carried out a major joint eviction drive at Sri Vijaya Puram to remove unauthorized occupations on Government Revenue land along roadside areas.

Continuing its sustained efforts to remove encroachments from public land, a joint team comprising officials from the Revenue Department, SVPMC, along with active support from Police Department and Municipal labourers, conducted an eviction drive near Corbyn’s Cove Junction. During the operation, 16 Nos. unauthorized structures, including ghumtis, makeshift stalls and temporary shops that had been operating without valid permission on Government Revenue land were removed. The drive was executed in a well-coordinated manner, ensuring the process was carried out peacefully and efficiently under adequate police protection.

The eviction covered the entire stretch from Corbyn’s Cove Junction up to Corbyn’s Cove beach area, Sri Vijaya Puram, where several temporary commercial setups had been obstructing pedestrian movement and public access. The removal of these encroachments has not only restored valuable Government land to its rightful status but has also improved the visibility and safety along the main road.

In addition, 04 encroachments (03 structures and 01 fencing with banana plantation) were removed from Government Revenue land in Corbyn’s Cove area. Approximately 600 square meters of Government land has been successfully reclaimed and restored to Government Khaata.

The District Administration, South Andaman reiterates that such operations will continue unabated in all areas where illegal occupation is identified. Citizens are urged to refrain from occupying public land illegally and are encouraged to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining the integrity of public assets.
