
Car Nicobar, April 28: A high-level team of the Electricity Department conducted an intensive tour of Kamorta, Champin, Pilpillow, and Munak Islands recently. This initiative marked a milestone for the residents of Pilpillow, who welcomed senior departmental officials to their village for the first time. During the visit, Shri Tanveer Hussain, First Headman of Pilpillow, stated that the presence of senior officials enabled transparent review of long-standing infrastructure issues. The team inspected the critical 11 KV HT transmission span between the 16 km and 25 km markers and assured permanent solutions, including immediate strengthening with straight joining kits and complete cable replacement under RDSS loss reduction works. Shri Hussain expressed heartfelt gratitude to A&N Administration for fulfilling the demand for solar streetlights, which have already brought visible improvement to village life. He also extended thanks to the Electricity Department staff at Kamorta and to Shri Frazer James, First Captain of Kakana, for their cooperation.
The high-level team was led by Smti. Ambika Ratnoo, Director (Power) and Shri Kshitij Gyanraj Sa, Assistant Commissioner (Nancowry), along with Smti. Deepa Nair, Executive Engineer (Nicobar Division) and senior officials.
The tour also addressed voltage fluctuations in Champin and Tapong, where deteriorated underground service wires will be replaced with new overhead lines. In Munak village, the Administration reinforced its commitment to energy security by confirming procurement of an additional 40 KVA DG set to serve as backup for the community power house. Beyond technical upgrades, the team actively promoted the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, encouraging rooftop solar adoption under CAPEX and RESCO models to advance sustainable energy solutions.
This extensive field visit, underscores a new era of administrative accountability and responsiveness, ensuring that the grievances of tribal communities are heard and resolved at the highest levels.
