Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 10: On 10th September 2026, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO) at Port Blair Shri. Umesh Singh, convicted one accused person namely Sunder Clerk, resident of Karmota, in a sexual assault case committed by him against a minor girl then aged 13 years. It is averred that the accused a resident of Diggi Basti, Kamorta used to restrain the victim and harassed the victim sexually when she comes out of her house. He also touched the victim with sexual intent.
The victim reported the incident by dropping a letter in the Nirbheek (Complaint) Box kept in the School and the school officials reported the matter to PS Nancowry who registered a case being FIR No. 28 of 2022 dated 09.09.2022 against the accused person under Section 7/8/11(i)(iv)/12 of POCSO Act and the investigation was taken by SI G.Mohan Rao and SI Masuma Begum.
The prosecution examined 9 witnesses and the Hon’ble Court after conducting trial found the accused person guilty of the offence. Accordingly, the accused has been sentenced to suffer 06 (Six) months of simple imprisonment under Section 12 of POCSO Act and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000/- in default of payment of such fine the accused had to undergo further simple imprisonment of 01 (One) month. The court further sentenced the accused to suffer 01 (One) month of simple imprisonment under Section 341 of IPC.
