Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 10: The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) provides PARAM Shavak High-Performance Computing (HPC) System to Zoological Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre. The NSM launched in 2015, is a Government of India flagship initiative to boost High-Performance Computing (HPC) to strengthen technological capabilities, and advance R&D across key sectors by the National Knowledge Network (NKN). Under this mission, the system being provided with the financial support from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, & Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to strengthen institutional capabilities in advanced computing, AI education, research, skilling and innovation.
The Zoological Survey of India, Sri Vijaya Puram uses this powerful computational infrastructure to protect the fragile island ecosystem through: Faunal Mapping: Tracking and listing thousands of animal and marine species across 836 islands; Climate Change Tracking: Modelling how rising sea temperatures impact coral reefs and marine wildlife; DNA Barcoding: Handling massive genetic data files to identify new or endangered species swiftly.
