Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: D. Ayyappan, President, Hinterland Seamen Union (CITU) and E. Rudraiah, CITU State Committee Member met the Secretary (Shipping), A & N Administration and discussed with him about the wage revision of seamen working in the A & N Administration owned vessels. The proposal sent to the Government of India from the A & N Administration for the wage revision is pending with the Government of India. The Secretary (Shipping) assured the Union leaders that the matter will be pursued with the officials concerned in the Government of India.
The wage revision of crew members of inter-island sector vessels is due from April, 2012 while those of Foreshore sector are due from April, 2018 even though the wage revision is mandatorily to be carried out after every two years. Thus, the crew members of Inter-island and Foreshore sector are getting the wages fixed 14 years ago and 8 years ago respectively.
However, the wage revision in the above two sectors have been finalized but could not be implemented as the Administration submitted the wage revision proposal to Government of India for approval, a practice never followed earlier.
