ICAR–KVK North & Middle Andaman Conducts Awareness Programme on Balanced Fertilizer Use for Sustainable Farming at Govindpur

Diglipur, April 30: An awareness programme on the balanced use of fertilizers for sustainable crop production was organized by ICAR–KVK, North and Middle Andaman at Govindpur village. The programme aimed to educate farmers on the judicious and need-based application of fertilizers, with a focus on soil health management, integrated nutrient management (INM), and the use of organic inputs for long-term productivity and environmental sustainability. Dr. Rakesh Dawar, SMS (Agronomy), emphasized the importance of balanced fertilization and scientific nutrient management to maintain soil fertility and enhance crop yield. Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), highlighted the role of eco-friendly practices and household-level awareness in promoting sustainable agriculture and a healthy environment. Farmers were sensitized on minimizing the excessive use of chemical fertilizers to reduce environmental pollution and protect soil health. The programme witnessed active participation from local farmers. The programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Act.), ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram. Around 15 farmers participated enthusiastically, gaining knowledge that can be effectively applied in their fields for sustainable farming practices.
