Port Blair, July 2: The New Criminal Laws came into force in the country on 1st July, 2024 making it a historic day for the Indian system of criminal jurisprudence. The laws are citizen and victim friendly that are aimed at bringing about greater transparency, accessibility, accountability and quick redressal to the grievances of the public.

One major step in this direction is the introduction of Zero FIR under Section 173 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. A complainant can now file FIR anywhere in the country, irrespective of the place of occurrence of crime. This provision will ensure beginning of legal proceedings immediately, without undue delay on the part of the police.

Port Blair, July 2: The District Administration, South Andaman in its continuous efforts to contain the encroachments over Government land under South Andaman District has carried out extensive eviction drives at various places.

During these drives, eviction of an unauthorized occupation over Sy.No.441/4 and an area of 0.05 hects was restored at Bambooflat under section 161 of A&N LR&LRR, 1961 and in a similar drive carried out at Garacharma village, fresh encroachment was removed from Govt. land bearing Sy. No 419/P and an area of 200 sq. mtrs was to restored to its original status.

Port Blair, July 2: A three days long training programme on ‘Marine Ornamental Fish Breeding’ by Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration in association with ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin got underway today at Fisheries Training Centre, Marine Hill. A first of its kind training with an aim to utilize the potential Marine Biodiversity of A&N Islands is devised by the Department of Fisheries to impart technical knowledge and hands-on experience in breeding, seed production and larval rearing of marine ornamental fishes especially clown fish and damsel. The major technical advancement in the field of marine ornamental fisheries achieved by ICAR-CMFRI, Cochin will be showcased in the form of theoretical and practical sessions during the programme.

Port Blair, July 2: The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) will conduct the A & N State Chess Championship 2024 on 13th and 14th July 2024 at the ITI Campus, Dolly Gunj. The championship will serve as a selection event for the upcoming 61st National Chess Championship 2024, scheduled to be held in Haryana in the month of August 2024.

The best four Players each from North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar District will be provided free accommodation at Port Blair and their travel expenses will be borne by ANCA. All Such entries should come through the respective District Chess Associations.
