Port Blair, May 18: With the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta, Circuit Bench at Port Blair leaving the decision to the appropriate authorities including the Government of India and the Administration of A&N Islands to take necessary steps to provide the undersea cable link, the CANI project now seem to be a distant dream for the islanders.

The Hon’ble Court in its Order dated 15th May 2020 stated, “This is of utmost importance, without which communication between the inhabitants of the Islands, among themselves and with the people in the main land, shall be seriously jeopardized”.

Meanwhile in an interview, the Chief General Manager, BSNL, Port Blair cleared that the project will take time.

Port Blair, May 18: Elaborating the importance / requirement of 20 Lakh Crore Rupees package recently announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State President, BJP, A&N Islands, Shri Ajoy Bairagi said that a campaign will be launched shortly by state unit of BJP – A & N Islands to create awareness on benefits of newly launched schemes/packages, without violating any norms and guidelines of COVID-19, prevailing in force. Bairagi was speaking to the media at a press conference called at the BJP Bhavan, Port Blair on 16th May 2020.

Port Blair, May 18: Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chairman of Personnel, Public Grievances, Law & Justice Standing Committee of Parliament to take up the matter with the Government of India to consider issuance of order regarding absent period of Government Servants after completion of sanctioned leave deemed to be treated on duty in view of nationwide lockdown on COVID-19 pandemic.

Port Blair, May 18: Public bus transport was discontinued in the UT after the announcement of Lockdown from 25.03.2020 to contain the spread of COVID -19. Now in view of the relaxations announced by the Government of India in Lockdown 4.0 and subsequent notification issued by Andaman & Nicobar Administration vide O/o 500 and 501 dated 17.05.2020, the Transport Department has now decided to restart the public bus transport service in the South Andaman District.
