Port Blair, Dec. 10: The Hon’ble Minister of State for Home, Shri Nityanand Rai currently on a 4-day visit to the Islands today visited COVID Care Centre at DBRAIT Dollygunj where the Minister was briefed about the Administration’s effort towards containing spread of COVID -19. The Minister also met the frontline workers, Doctors taking care of the patients at COVID Care Centre at DBRAIT. The Commissioner–cum Secretary (Health), Dr. V Candavelou, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka were also present during the visit.

Port Blair, Dec. 1: The team of South Andaman District Police has once again proved their efficiency and booked one accused under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 with the recovery of 1.835 Kgs of Ganja.

Port Blair, Dec. 11: The District Level Centre for Women (DLCW), South Andaman, under District Administration, South Andaman conducted an awareness programme at Public Health and Wellness Centre, Ferrargunj on 9-12-2020. The programme was aimed to disseminate information about central government schemes and programmes. This programme also aimed to mobilise communities and society to bring about the necessary changes in attitude, behaviours and beliefs about the gender equality. The programme was attended by ante natal mothers and general public. The women centric schemes include Beti bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Dulari Scheme, One Stop Centre, Working Women Hostel, Women Helpline, Mahila Police Volunteer, Swadhar-Greh, Ujjawala, etc.

Port Blair, Dec. 11: PM SVANidhi has proved to be a blessing for small street vendors, whose savings had exhausted and their means of survival had come to a halt during the pandemic period. SmtiVijaya, a lady street vendor involved in breakfast business at Dollygunj, is one among the affected. Tragedy hit her hard when she lost her husband during the COVID period. She has a school going son to take care of. Devastated with the loss of her husband and the only source of livelihood,she recalls that did not have the money to buy ration for home. She used to wait for the van which supplied free food on a daily basis, initiated by the A &N administration.

Port Blair, Dec. 9: The Hon’ble Minister of State for Home, Shri Nityanand Rai arrived here today on a 4-day visit to the Islands. Soon after arrival, the Minister visited the National Memorial Cellular Jail and paid tributes to the freedom fighters by laying wreath at the Martyrs’ Column. The Minister was briefed about the history of Cellular Jail and the renovation work in progress at the National Memorial. He also visited the Solitary Cell of Veer Savarkar and paid homage to the great patriot of India’s Freedom Struggle. The Minister also visited Flag Point near South Point.
