Port Blair, May 19: In a novel initiative to sensitize people about the sea cow ‘Dugong’, which also happens to be the state animal of the islands, Wildlife Institute India (WII) has organized a social media event called ‘Dugong Awareness Day’ to be held on 28th May 2020.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Civil Aviation, Govt. of India and enlightened about the pathetic condition of the stranded Islanders held up at different parts of several states of mainland India.

Port Blair, May 18: With the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta, Circuit Bench at Port Blair leaving the decision to the appropriate authorities including the Government of India and the Administration of A&N Islands to take necessary steps to provide the undersea cable link, the CANI project now seem to be a distant dream for the islanders.

The Hon’ble Court in its Order dated 15th May 2020 stated, “This is of utmost importance, without which communication between the inhabitants of the Islands, among themselves and with the people in the main land, shall be seriously jeopardized”.

Meanwhile in an interview, the Chief General Manager, BSNL, Port Blair cleared that the project will take time.

Port Blair, May 19: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India for creating a center at Port Blair for appearing of candidates from A&N Islands in Superspeciality DM/Mch examination conducted by AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh & NEET - SS which are scheduled to be held during the month of June to July 2020.  Because of lockdown the students appearing in the above said examination are unable to go to respective centers in mainland.

After the press conference by the Finance Minister on 18th May 2020 about the relief package, Pronab Sarkar, President Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) expressed his disappointment on tourism being totally ignored in spite of the fact, our Hon’ble Prime Minister recognising the role of tourism in economic development of the country and mentioning tourism in all his speeches during his all foreign visits, mentioning tourism as one of 5 T’s during his first tenure, from the rampart of Red Fort and also tourism being included in the champion sectors.
