Port Blair, May 20: Drawing the attention of the Lt. Governor on the decision of the Administration to bring stranded islanders by ship from Kolkata, the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has demanded that the stranded islanders be brought to the islands immediately by flights, since there is no rail connectivity to the islands and getting people by ship will be risky.

Principal Secretary Inspects Facilities

Port Blair, May 19: The Principal Secretary (Health), Shri KR Meena visited the State of Art COVID-19 Dedicated Hospital set up by the Health Department in G B Pant Hospital. This visit was conducted to review the arrangements made by the Department to cope up with the expected third wave of COVID-19 cases being expected when stranded migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and others will come to Islands from mainland. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has directed to set up 03 tier COVID-19 care facilities to handle COVID-19 cases as per the clinical conditions of patients.

Port Blair, May 19: The State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, A & N Islands, Shri. Ajoy Bairagi today at about 2.55 PM telephonic conversation with Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Civil Aviation, Govt. of India and enlightened about the pathetic condition of the stranded Islanders held up at different parts of several states of mainland India.

Port Blair, May 19: In a novel initiative to sensitize people about the sea cow ‘Dugong’, which also happens to be the state animal of the islands, Wildlife Institute India (WII) has organized a social media event called ‘Dugong Awareness Day’ to be held on 28th May 2020.

Port Blair, May 19: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India for creating a center at Port Blair for appearing of candidates from A&N Islands in Superspeciality DM/Mch examination conducted by AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh & NEET - SS which are scheduled to be held during the month of June to July 2020.  Because of lockdown the students appearing in the above said examination are unable to go to respective centers in mainland.
