Port Blair, June 1: The unabated increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases is causing global level variations in climatic systems and will result in the intensification of global warming effect in the near future.  Projected impacts of climate change include extended periods of drought, loss of soil fertility, change in the length of growing season and degradation of land, which will negatively impact agricultural production. The impact of climate change is more prominent in small islands than the large continental countries.  In order to deliberate upon these issues for identifying and prioritizing major impacts on island ecosystem a workshop was organised at ICAR-CIARI on 11th March 2020 to formulate adaptation strategies. 

Port Blair, June 1: The State President-BJP, A & N Islands Shri. Ajoy Bairagi along with Shri. Jyotirmoy Bawali, State General Secretary, A & N Islands were on a visit to North & Middle Andaman District between 25th May 2020 to 31st May, 2020. During their visit, they met all party leaders, supporters, karyakartas as well as the people of several villages of North & Middle Andaman.

Port Blair, June 1: As part of its COVID 19 Initiative, RFA has distributed handmade cotton masks across various sections of the society. Masks were provided to frontline workers like all Anganwadis workers of Port Blair and Ferrargunj Tehsil, staff of AAJVS who work for protection of tribals, to Councilors of various wards for the sanitary workers of their wards, to all children and staff of Child Care Institutions of South Andaman and residents of the state run Old Age Home.

Sailing to Kolkata and from Vizag Passengers Planned

Port Blair, June 1: As part of the transportation of stranded passengers to and from A&N Islands to Mainland, MV Nicobar arrived Port Blair at 1700 Hrs on 01st June 2020 with 87 stranded passengers from Chennai. Earlier MV Nancowry had sailed from Port Blair on 26th May 2020 with 161 passengers.

Extensive Search Operation Being Conducted at Corbyn’s Cove Creek

The case of Akash who had gone missing since the intervening night of 17th and 18th August 2019 after an accident near Corbyn’s Cove Creek has now been taken up by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Port Blair, May 31: A case of road accident was registered at PS Aberdeen on the 18th of August 2019 against Akash based on the statements of two survivors in the accident that took place, who happened to be with Akash in his car during the time of accident. After all investigations, Akash has finally been termed as accused, though there has been no trace of Akash since the time of the accident.
