Port Blair, Sept. 10: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma called on the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands on Friday (07.09.2023) morning wherein he highlighted many crucial issues related to the Islanders and development of these Islands. The issues discussed are as follows:

1) Pension Increase for Old Age People: The Member of Parliament informed the Lt. Governor that many elderly citizens are struggling due to inflation. Their existing pensions don't meet their needs, especially with rising costs. In light of their challenges, he appealed for an increase in the old-age pension to Rs. 5000. He said that many elderly people have to pay monthly rent for a room and there are other expenses of treatment, medicines and transport. The current pension amount often falls short of covering their essential needs, leaving them in a state of financial strain.

Rangat, Sept. 10: With the heavy downpours in the last 15 days, the condition of the National Highway (NH4) got worsened, making the lives of thousands of people of Middle & North Andaman miserable. After the repeated unheeded requests to the Administration and the construction agency NHIDCL, finally the anguished residents of the Rangat and Bakultala Panchayats have decided to hold protests, staging ‘Chakka Jam’.

Port Blair, Sept. 10: Recently, there has been an increase in the number of complaints related to mobile apps and websites offering loans online. These apps and websites provide micro loans of a few thousand rupees. However, even after the loan amount has been paid back, the victim is told that the payment was rejected and is continuously harassed into paying again. If the amount is not paid by the victim, he/she is threatened with distribution of edited images of the victim with vulgar caption to the victim's contacts. In some cases, the victim's relatives are also harassed as the scammers have access to the victim's contacts.
