Port Blair, Dec. 2: Adding yet another feather in her cap, R Kashthuri Bhai, a class VIII student of GDMS Port Blair, becomes the first A & N Islands’ chess player to have opened international Rating both in Standard and Rapid Formats of Chess game as per the latest International Ratings published by the World Chess Federation on 30th November 2022. She recently participated in back to back Rapid Tournaments at Bengaluru & Hyderabad and following excellent performance, she managed to open International Rapid Rating. As per the latest ratings published on 30th Nov 2022, her Standard Format Rating is 1513 and Rapid Rating is 1563.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: The CPI (M) has demanded immediate posting of sufficient number of medical officers including Specialist doctors and Nursing Staff to Dr Rajendra Prasad District Hospital, Mayabunder. In a letter sent to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), A & N Administration, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee while referring to his recent visit to the said hospital during a tour to North Andaman, said that there is acute shortage of medical officers and Specialist doctors in the District Hospital.

Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) called on Hon'ble Union Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Minister of Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal today at New Delhi. Discussed proposal for developing A&N Islands as Regional Ship Building and Repair Hub in Indo-Pacific and briefed about various developmental projects of A&N Administration in Shipping sector.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: In fight against bootlegging, illicit liquor and drug abuse, Andaman & Nicobar Police has adopted multi-pronged strategy coupled with zero tolerance against this menace. On supply front, Police is cracking the whips against bootleggers and drug peddlers. On demand side, mass public awareness campaign is launched to spread awareness about ill-effects of alcohol/drug abuse.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has been supporting NGOs/Banks for promotion and credit linkage of SHGs and imparting livelihood training programmes. Many Self Help Groups are into livelihood activities, making various handicraft products, food processing etc. In order to provide a platform for sale of their products, NABARD is organizing an Exhibition-cum-Sale of SHG products at Marina Park area on Dec. 3 & 4. A street drama (Nukkad Natak) for popularizing financial literacy and digital banking is also being organized on December 3 at 6 pm.
