The CITU, A&N State Committee deeply mourn the sudden demise of Shri A. Palani, an employee of the Peerless Resorts, Carbyn’s Cove, Port Blair and resident of Garacharma on  27th January 2021 at GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.  He was 56.  He was an active member of the Peerless Resorts Employees Union (CITU).  

Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament has expressed grief on the sad demise of Shri K H Parmar, aged 91 years who breathed his last at his residence in Vadodara, Gujarat on 28.12.2021. The MP Sharma, acknowledged the services rendered by late Shri K H Parmar in these Islands during the period from 1976 to 1985 as Assistant General Manager of Shipping Corporation of India and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and had offered deep condolences to the bereaved family members.

Port Blair, Jan. 27:  The Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) ordered the release of 13 life convicts on the occasion of Republic Day as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The release was ordered on the recommendation of Sentence Review Board headed by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain. On this occasion, a small ceremony was organized at District Jail, Prothrapur. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, as chief guest. Secretary (PBMC), Shri Kishore Kshirsagar Lakshman, Inspector General (Prisons), Shri Rajeev Kumar, Superintendent Jail, Shri Radhey Shyam Meena and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Lt Governor Unfurls National Flag at Historic Netaji Stadium Amidst Patriotic Fervour

Port Blair, Jan 26: Together with the rest of the Country, the 73rd Republic Day was celebrated today in these Islands too in a manner befitting the occasion with extra precautions and measures in view of the COVID-19 situation. The main function for the Republic Day was held at the historic Netaji Stadium wherein the Lt Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the Republic Day Parade. The parade and guard of honour comprised of the armed contingents of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, A&N Police, Fire Brigade and NCC alongwith their bands. Defence helicopter showered flower petals at Netaji Stadium, the venue of the main function of the Republic Day-2022.

Port Blair, Jan. 27: Eighteen persons from diverse walks of life have been chosen to be honoured with the Lt Governor’s Commendation Certificate on the occasion of Republic Day-2022. Due to COVID-19 pandemic protocols, the awards were handed over by SDM, South Andaman, Shri Dilkhush Meena to the recipients.
