Indian Coast Guard (A&N) Observes International Coastal Cleanup Across the Isles

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 20: The Indian Coast Guard Region (A&N), under the aegis of Andaman & Nicobar Command, conducted an International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2026 today across beaches at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Sri Vijaya Puram, Kamorta and Campbell Bay, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the pristine marine environment of the Islands and promoting greater community participation in coastal conservation.

The large-scale cleanliness campaign brought together school and college students, NCC cadets, participants from A&N Police, Department of Forest and State Administration, reflecting a collective commitment towards preserving the Islands’ unique coastal and marine ecosystem. The event witnessed participation of 2165 volunteers across the Islands, collecting about 1792 kg of marine and 1070 kg of plastic garbage. The enthusiastic participation of young students and NCC cadets was particularly significant, carrying the message that protection of our coastline and seas must begin with awareness and responsible habits from an early age.

The cleanup also resonates with the national spirit of “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar” campaign, which emphasises citizens’ participation in improving ocean health.
