Islands Chess Players Shine in Open Chess Tournaments Held in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 23: Chess players from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands once again showcased their talent with outstanding performances in FIDE-rated open chess tournaments held in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi.

Woman Candidate Master (WCM) R Kashthuri Bhai delivered an impressive performance at the 3rd Xaverian Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament held in Tamil Nadu from 19th to 22nd March 2026. Competing in a strong field of around 450 participants in the open category (classical format), she scored an excellent 6.5 points out of 8 rounds, remaining unbeaten to secure sixth position overall. Her performance earned her a cash prize of ₹10,000, highlighting her consistency and strength at the national level.

Meanwhile, young and promising talent AFM Saw Jinson Samuel delivered an impressive performance at the 3rd Maharathi Open FIDE Rapid & Blitz Tournament held at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi from 21st to 22nd March 2026. Competing among approximately 750 participants, he scored an excellent 6.5 points out of 9 rounds in the rapid event, securing second position in the 1400–1550 Rating Category, winning a trophy and a cash prize of ₹12,000. He further excelled in the blitz event by securing third position in the Under-9 category.

The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association congratulates both players for their commendable achievements and for bringing laurels to the Islands.
